Mr. Zurhn E. Walker, Sr., age 87, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 from complications of pneumonia. A lifelong resident of Bartow, Mr. Walker was born the son of Samuel J. and Effie (Sowell) Walker on June 6, 1923. Mr. Walker was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and Korea. After his service, Mr. Walker worked as a Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bartow, along with Buttons & Bows Square Dancers, and the West Coast Square Dance Association. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Johnson Walker in 1970 and his second wife Shirley Walker in 2009. Mr. Walker is survived by a loving family that includes two daughters; Colette Bruce (Joey) of Winter Haven, Yvette Carmichael of Tennessee, six sons; Victor Stroble and Vernon Stroble both of Key West, Zurhn Walker, Jr. (Terri) of Winter Haven, Brent Walker of South Carolina, Claude Mason of Bartow, and Andy Mason (Dawn) of Lakeland. He also leaves behind brother Lloyd Walker of Dover, sister Wanese Lawton of Bartow, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow where the family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 26th from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services will follow Wednesday, Oct. 27th at 3:00pm at the First Baptist Church 410 E. Church Street in Bartow.
