Wilton E. Colson

Mr. Wilton E. Colson, age 95, died Monday, January 5, 2009. Born November 22, 1913 in Folkston, GA, Mr. Colson was the son of the late John W. and Ernie (Altman) Colson. Mr. Colson worked for Seaboard Coastline for 30 years before retiring as a telegrapher. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bartow. There he was a member of the Triple L Club, Golden Age Club, and also a Volunteer Scout Master. Mr. Colson was an Army Veteran of World War II. Along with his parents, Mr. Colson was also preceded in death by his wives, Katie Colson, and Pauline Colson. He is survived by his son, Bill Colson (Dorothy) of Bartow, two sisters; Margaret Gray of Jacksonville, and Virginia Horne of Lakeland. He also leaves behind three grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow where family will receive friends Wednesday January 7th from 5 PM to 7 PM. Services for Mr. Colson will follow Thursday, January 8th at 10:00 AM at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sardis Cemetery in Folkston, GA.
