William H. Mayfield

William H. "Bill" Mayfield, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his home in Bartow. Born July 21, 1932 in Ironton, OH, he was the son of the late William D. and Thelma (Spencer) Mayfield. Mr. Mayfield was a member of Peace Creek Baptist Church in Bartow and was a Maintenance Superintendent in the Phosphate Mining industry for many years. He also was a member of the Masonic Tuscan Lodge #6 in Bartow and the Scottish Rite. Mr. Mayfield is preceded in death by his sister Betty Lou in 1954. Bill is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 65 years, Mary Fay Mayfield of Bartow, his three daughters: Mary Legg Trask (Ron Porter) of Lake Wales, Cheryl Fay Carlton (Pat) of Duette, and Kim Wilson (Wade) of Bartow. He also leaves behind three brothers: David Mayfield, Bob Mayfield, Ray Mayfield, his grandchildren: Candi Fay Whisenant, Ian Legg, Nathan Legg, William Carlton, William Wilson, Fay Nicole Wilson, Jeremy Casella along with eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 6th from 1pm to 2pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home chapel.
