Werner C. "Skeet" Fulton

W.C. "Skeet" Fulton, 89, died Friday, April 4, 2014 of heart failure at his residence in Winter Haven, FL. He was born May 13, 1924 in Bartow, FL to the late Surgeon L. and Gladys Jones Fulton. He was a resident of Winter Haven for seven years, having been a long time resident of Frostproof. He attended school in Bartow and was a member of the Summerlin Institute Class of 1942. He studied briefly at Auburn University before joining the United States Air Force where he served as a flight instructor until the end of World War II. In 1946, he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Jane Keen of Frostproof, and together they attended the University of Florida where he received a B.S. in Agricultural Economics. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduation from college, Skeet and Betty Jane returned to Polk County and he began work at the Florida Citrus Experiment Station in Lake Alfred, FL. They eventually moved to Frostproof where he was employed by Armour Fertilizer. In 1949, Mr. Fulton opened Fulton Grove Service, Inc. in Alturas, FL, the predecessor company to Fulton-Cole Seed Co., a full service grove caretaking, seed harvesting and fruit production organization. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Frostproof where he taught Sunday School, served as Chairman of the Building Committee and Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a member of the American Legion Post 95 and Past President of the Frostproof Lions Club. In later years, he and his wife joined the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon. Skeet enjoyed raising registered Quarter horses and participating in horse shows with his family. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer, and was a member of Pinecrest and Lake Wales Country Clubs. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Jane Fulton of Winter Haven, his three daughters; Deborah Keen Sizemore (Dr. Alan Sizemore) of Winter Haven, Jan Fulton Crawford (C. Hugh Crawford, Jr.) of Bartow, Lynn Fulton Aaron of Winter Haven, and his sister, Yvonne Fulton of Jacksonville. He is also survived by two granddaughters and four grandsons: JaLeeann Johnston (Jeremiah) of Winter Haven, Lorilynn Cox (Adam) of Naples, Dr. B. Clay Sizemore (Marcy) of Thomasville, Ga., Preston A. Sizemore (Marie) of Palm Beach Gardens, W.A. "Drew" Crawford of Bartow, and Claudius H. "Chip" Crawford, III of Providence, R.I.; and seven great grandchildren. His family will forever treasure the love he had for his wife, his wonderful sense of humor, and his unfailing devotion. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 10th 2014, 1:00-2:00 pm, at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 205 E. Stanford Street, Bartow. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm at the Church. Interment will be held at Silver Hill Cemetery, Frostproof. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, 33823, or charity of choice.
