W. Allen Brown

Mr. W. Allen Brown passed away from respiratory failure Monday, June 11, 2007 in Bartow. He was 87. Born November 11, 1919 in Tiger Bay, FL, he was the son of the late Howard and Elsie Brown. Mr. Brown worked as an electronic technician for the Polk County School Board for 20 years. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Brown was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Bartow and served the church in many different capacities. Some of which include serving as a member of the Methodist Men's Club, and also on such committees as Finance, Trustee, and Chairman of the Pastor's Staff Parrish Committee. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elsie May Brown, a daughter; Elaine Brown of Bartow, and two sisters; Edna Floy Vas of Bartow, and Louise McCoy of Duluth, GA. Visitation will be Thursday June 14, 2007 from 6PM to 8PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home 650 Main Street in Bartow. Services for Mr. Brown will be at Friday June 15, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church 1560 South Jackson Ave. Bartow, Florida. Memorial contributions may be sent to either Fla.
