Winter Haven - Virginia Ann Adkins, age 84, passed away, February 7, 2024, at Astoria Nursing home in Winter Haven. She was born on April 29, 1939, in Rockwood, TN to Walter & Addie (Millican) Greene. Virginia loved the Lord and dedicated much of her time to working in children’s ministries. She also served in many church leadership positions throughout the years, however, the focus of her heart was teaching children about Jesus through Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, GA’s and as a Pre-School Teacher at Redeemer Lutheran School. Her excitement in sharing the gospel and genuine love for each child undoubtedly influenced many children’s lives. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Floyd Price and James Glen Adkins, son-in-law Michael Zielske and stepdad Glen Hughes. She is survived by her loving family that includes her brothers Jeff Hughes & Dewey Hughes, daughter Beverly Ann Zielske of Boca Raton, son Johnny Michael Adkins (Christi) of Homeland, daughters Sheila Bailey of Haileyville, AL & Vickie Price, grandchildren James Zielske (Kyla) of Etters, PA, Joshua Adkins (Lindsay) of Richland, WA, Iris Zielske Aheveza (Albert) of Kampala, Uganda, Ryan Zielske of Alexandria, VA, April Tackitt and Katie Bailey of Haileyville, AL, great-grandchildren Jonah Zielske, Curtis Zielske, Azalea Zielske, Ira Adkins and Lee Adkins. The family would like to give special thanks to Astoria Nursing Home and Compassionate Care Hospice. They not only provided loving care but also became dear friends. Graveside service will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Homeland Cemetery in Homeland. Rev. Terry Coe will be officiating.
