Mr. Verdon Myers Voigt, 85, passed away from heart failure, September 20, 2007 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale. Born April 6, 1922 in Alturas, Mr. Voigt was the son of the late Rudolph Arnold and Bertha Myers Voigt and is also the last of eight brothers and a sister to pass. Mr. Voigt was a dedicated citrus grower serving the Alturas Citrus Fruit Company for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Alturas First United Methodist Church and an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. Along with his parents, and all his siblings Mr. Voigt is also preceded in death by his first wife Millicent Rodgers Voigt. He is survived by a loving family that includes his wife Nadine Goodwin Voigt of Lakeland, his daughter, Candy & her husband Duane Mercer of Bartow, his son Ronnie Voigt of Lakeland, and his step son, Clay Fielding of Lakeland. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; April Dennis (David), Michele Leone (Rob), Duane Mercer, Jr., Shawn Voigt, Courtney Eryn Fielding, and five great grandchildren; Ansley Dennis, Jude Dennis, Jonah Dennis, Nicholas Leone, Avery Leone, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mr. Voigt will be Sunday, September 23, 2007 from 3 PM to 5 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Graveside services will be Monday, September 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Lakeland Memorial Gardens 2125 South Bartow Highway in Lakeland.
