Velma Juanita Lowery

Velma Juanita Lowery, age 79, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in Lakeland. A longtime resident of Homeland, she was born February 24, 1936 in Birmingham, AL, to the late Roy C. Locke, Sr. and Thelma (Jenkins) Locke. Velma was a homemaker and a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Bartow. She is also preceded in death by her husband Ross O. Lowery in 2011 and two sisters Jeanette Starling and Mildred Nettles. Mrs. Lowery is survived by four daughters: Dorene T. Cook (Steve), Lesa L. Yates (Royce), Angela S. Lynch (Mike) and Sandi B. Kretz (Mike). She also leaves behind two brothers: Roy C. Locke, Jr. (June) and Carl Locke, Sr. (Frances), ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, June 22nd from 10am to 11am at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow, Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Homeland Cemetery.
