Velma Lois Howell, age 104, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at her residence in Fort Meade. Born April 17, 1912 in Arab, Al, Mrs. Howell was a resident of Fort Meade since 1918 moving from Alabama. She was a Teacher Aide for migrant stundents, Artist and a Poet. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Meade where she was a Sunday School teacher and taught kindergarten for ten years. Mrs. Howell was a member of the Fort Meade Historical Society, Garden Club and honored as a Polk County Pioneer. Mrs. Howell is preceded in death by her husband: Wilbur B. "Buck" Howell; her daughter: Sally Ann Howell Lunn & husband Nelson and three sons: Rex, Don and Bill Howell. She is survived by her daughter: Debra Susan Howell of Fort Meade, four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her beloved Lunn family of Tallahassee, and her dog: Sally Ruger. Family will receive friends Saturday, August 20, 2016, from 10:00- 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 307 E. Broadway, Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade, FL. Memorial contributions can be made to Suntrust bank in memory of Velma Howell.
