Thomas L. Gainey

Thomas L. Gainey, age 84, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at his home in Bartow. Born January 9, 1932 in Darlington, FL, he was the son of the late Robert and Esther (Alford) Gainey. Mr. Gainey was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Polk County School Board where he worked as a heating and air conditioning maintenance man. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Alec Carmichael, brother Lance Gainey, and sister Maxine Gibbs. He is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 48 years, Judy Gainey, his children: Connie Enfinger (Alan), Charles Carmichael (Kathy), Dan Carmichael (Lou), Joey Bruce (Collette), his brothers: Kenneth Gainey, Leon Gainey (Jeanette), 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and two nieces Carol Gainey Williams, and Cheryl Gainey Bryant. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27, 2016 from 10am to 11am at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel.
