Theodore "Ted" A. Whiting, Jr

Theodore "Ted" A. Whiting, Jr, 75, of Bartow, FL, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022, at his home. Ted was born on January 2, 1947, to Irene and Theodore A. Whiting, Sr, of Springfield, Mass. Ted grew up in Springfield, and Warren, R.I., with sisters, Lindsay, Cindy and brother, David.Ted learned to sail at an early age and it would become a lifelong passion for him. Ted graduated from Warren High in 1964. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War. After the war, Ted bought a motorcycle and would travel all the states, until he made his home in Lakeland, FL, where he would meet his first wife, Cheryl. They moved to Bartow in 1972. They would later adopt a little girl, Melissa, and go on to have a son, Corey(Erin-spouse). After 32 years of marriage, Cheryl passed away in 2007. Ted was a hard working family man, working in the phosphate mines for 38 years, then the Bartow Water Plant for 10 years. Ted's passions were tennis, sailing, camping, going to church, and being with his family. Ted was loved by everyone he met. On August 12, 2018, Ted married Patricia Jones Whiting. The next 4 years of his retirement were filled with many happy times with his wife, children, grandchildren, Kaylee, and Cierra, and great grandchildren, Caesyn, and Oaklynn. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Whidden McClean Funeral home. Family viewing at 9:30-10a.m followed by a visitation from 10-11 a.m., with service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your choice of charity, in Ted's name. He will forever remain in our hearts.
