Sylvia H. Howarth

Sylvia H. Howarth, age 94, of Bartow, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Bartow Regional Medical Center of natural causes. Born June 20, 1916 in Fairport Harbor, OH, Mrs Howarth has been a resident of Bartow 42 years, moving from Taneytown, MD. Mrs. Howarth was an Elementary School Teacher for the Polk County School Board for many years. She also served in the County Migrant Student Program for several years. She taught school in Maryland for several years before moving to Florida. She enjoyed quilting and reading, and was an avid Orlando Magic Basketball fan. She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church of Bartow & former member fo the Bartow Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her husband: Edward M. Howarth, Sr; a brother: Leonard Kellman; parents: Arne & Lydia Harju Kjellman, formerly of Finland. Mrs. Howarth is survived by her daugther: Jeanne Warner of Woodbridge, VA; 4 sons: Edward M. Howarth, Jr. of Bartow; Robert J. Howarth of Oxford, NC; Jack A. Howarth of Lakeland & Donald B. Howarth of Bartow; 7 grandchildren & 7 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Sunday, January 9, 1-3 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral Services will be held Monday 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Main Street Baptist Church, 1140 E. Main St, Bartow.
