Susan Rhoden was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and a remarkable talent known for her extraordinary contributions to the world of fashion and custom tailoring. Susan was born on March 28, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, and spent her final days in Bartow, Florida, where she passed away on February 4, 2026.
Born to Malcolm Eckart and Fran Hampleman. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her sister Jean Pattison, and her cherished daughter, Erica Sky Rhoden. Her legacy lives on through her son, Bruce A. Rhoden Jr. (Michelle P. Rhoden); and her daughters, Kimberly Rhoden Moulton and Jill M. Rhoden (Thomas Willis). Susan is also survived by her siblings Sonny Eckart (Teresa Eckart), Valerie Eckart, and Kurt Eckart. She was a proud grandmother to Brooke P. Rhoden, Sierra M. White, Cheyenne S. Franco, Airon M. Rhoden, and Drue A. Rhoden. She was also blessed with several bonus grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Susan was not only a devoted family member but a truly gifted seamstress and tailor, renowned for her work throughout the industry. She began her career in 1979 with the band Kiss, propelling her into a world where her sewing skills would soon be in high demand by celebrities and filmmakers alike. Her artistry included crafting the iconic hands for the character Edward Scissorhands, a testament to her creativity and technical prowess. Throughout her career, she became a custom tailor for the Super Bowl, creating covers for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and collaborating with various sports teams, including the Tigers, Indians, Red Sox, Buccaneers, and Tampa Bay Lightning. One of her fondest memories was working with Dwayne Johnson, crafting a custom two-sided blanket for his daughter, which truly showcased her ability to blend talent with personal connection.
Beyond her professional achievements, Susan was known for her vibrant spirit and zest for life. In her younger years, she was physically active, participating in swimming and track on her high school team, and later playing softball. Her love for the water was evident—she was a certified diver, enjoyed snorkeling, and found great joy in kayaking.
Susan's life will be celebrated at Whidden Mclean Funeral Home on February 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM. As we remember Susan, we hold dear the memories of her laughter, her unwavering support, and her remarkable talent that touched so many lives. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and inspiration that will continue to resonate within her family and friends.
