Susan R Ellis Moon passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, after a lengthy illness in Lakeland Florida where she had resided since October of 2019. Susan Ruth Ellis was born December 26, 1943 in Erie, PA to Richard and Valjean (McKeen) Ellis. She attended Academy High school in Erie where she participated in music by playing her Viola, singing in the choir, and attending Youth for Christ group after school. It was there that she was introduced to the Lord and accepted Him as her personal Savior. After high school, she went to Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She majored in music and continued playing the viola and participating in the orchestra. During her summer breaks, Susan worked on the ships in the Great Lakes serving in the Canteen. It is there that she met William David Moon (Dave), who also worked on the ships. The story is, Dave told her he loved her while they were hanging out on the “Poop Deck”. They were married in Buffalo, NY, (where Dave was from), on October 8, 1965. While she was married and raising her family, Sue went back to school and completed her BSN and became a registered nurse, graduating from Edinboro University in 1984. Ten years later she graduated with a master’s degree in psychology from Edinboro University (1994). Susan is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David William Ellis and his wife, Diana G Ellis; her husband, W. Dave Moon; a nephew, 2 nieces, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Surviving are her 4 children; Pamela J Haywood (Richard), Tamara J Wittmann (Dave), William D Moon II (Amy), and Kelly S. O’Malley (Scott); several nieces and nephews including Richard M. Ellis, Timothy M Ellis, Mary Frances Bogden, Warren Wolfe, Jane Wolfe, and Jody Davisson; 10 grandchildren including David R. Haywood, Diana S Porath, Alexandria M Moon (Devin), Douglas R. Haywood, Devin R Haywood, Kaylee L Moon, Chloe J O’Malley, Clark O’Malley, Carter O’Malley, Cammy O’Malley; 2 Great grandchildren Tristan Zacharko, Aurelia Moon; 11 Great nieces and nephews, and 9 Great, Great nieces and nephews. Sue’s passion for children led her to work with pediatric clients in their home environment. She always went over and above her nursing duties to make sure the kids knew that they were loved. Throughout her lifetime, she was a faithful church attender. First with Bethel Baptist Church in Erie, then with First Alliance Church, also in Erie. She was known to help with the puppeteer’s group, Vacation Bible School, children’s church, nursery, and she played in the Bell Choir. Sue made several trips to the Dominican Republic with MGM ministries where she took her viola to play, and her ginormous handmade Winnie the Pooh costume. She absolutely loved entertaining the kids. The first time she donned the Pooh costume, her husband heartily laughed out loud, nearly falling off the couch. Her sewing skills were epic and her grandchildren wore their “handmade by grandma” costumes proudly! If there is one thing that stands out in Susan’s life, it is her love for Jesus. She wanted everyone to know that Jesus loves YOU! John 3:16. Friends and family will have an opportunity to celebrate the life of Sue Moon, in Erie, at the First Alliance Church November 2, 2024 at 3:00 in the afternoon.
