Sue M. Carter

Largo - Sue M. Carter, 87, passed away on November 16, 2025, at her home in Largo. She was born on November 17, 1937, in Bartow, Florida. She earned her high school diploma from Summerlin Institute in 1955, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina, in 1959. She was known as a young woman for her beautiful voice. She offered this to others in concerts and musical programs, in recitals and at weddings, and then, ultimately, to students. She began her career as a music teacher at New Smyrna Beach High School. She later taught music in the Atlanta Public school system before moving back to Florida in 1973. After a varied career, she retired from the telecommunications unit of the Pinellas County Health Department. She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, and caring for flowers. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Carter, of Saint Petersburg, sister Chris Conner-Bernstein of Miami, and nephew Justin Murphy of Bartow.
