Stevie Lou Powell, age 87, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014. Born on June 28, 1926 in Winter Haven, she was the daughter of the late Montgomery and Hattie Gunter. Mrs. Powell retired from Polk County after serving as Polk County Historian and then as Admissions Supervisor for Polk General Hospital--all totaling 21 years. She was a Baptist. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Powell and her sister Monte Sue Campbell. She is survived by five daughters: Robin Fisher (John) of Lakeland; Becky Woodham (James) of Rose Hill, VA; Debbie Lacy (James) of Bartow; Myra White (Tim Brown) of Savannah, GA; Sarah Glenn (Timothy) of Winter Haven; one son Stephen (Misty) of Bartow; thirteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 6:30PM at Lake Ruth Baptist Church in Bartow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Ruth Baptist Church, 800 West Clower Street, Bartow, FL 33830.
