Shirley C. Walker, 71 died Thursday, September 24, 2009 in an auto accident. Born October 23, 1937 in Shepherd, Mich, Mrs. Walker has been a resident of Bartow 34 years, moving from Clewiston, FL. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Bartow First Baptist Church, being very involved in the music ministry of the church. She was a member of the Buttons & Bows Square Dancers of Lakeland. She was a former circulation clerk for the Polk County Democrat Newspaper of Bartow. Mrs. Walker is survived by her husband: Zurhn E. Walker of Bartow; two daughters: Colette Bruce of Winter Haven & Yvette Carmichael of Lakeland; 6 sons: Victor Stroble of Bartow; Vernon Stroble of Key West; Zurhn Walker Jr of Winter Haven; Brent Walker of Bartow; Andy Mason of Bartow; Claude Mason of Bartow; brother: Roger Cook of Dunlap, TN; sisters: Diana Smith of Mt Juliet, TN; Gloria Hennessee of Chattanooga, TN; 12 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept 29, 10-11 am at the Bartow First Baptist Church, 410 E. Church St, Bartow. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11:00.
