Shirley A. Olinger, age 78, passed away from cancer on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at home in Winter Haven. Born on February 21, 1935 in International Falls, MN, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ethel (Hout) Kavanagh. Ms. Olinger moved to Polk County in 1969. She worked as a Judicial Assistant for Judge Maloney at the Polk County Courthouse for over 25 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Eagle Lake Women's Civic League, and attended the First United Methodist Church of Bartow. Ms. Olinger is survived by a loving family that includes four daughters; Debby Bryant (Jim) of North Augusta, SC, Diane Bruns (Mike) of Eagle Lake, Dawn Chance (Grady) of Lakeland, FL, Denise Vaughn (Billy) of Knoxville, TN, and her nine grandchildren; Kristin, Kyle (Lindsey), Aaron, Courtney, Lindsay, Tyler, Trevor, Maggie, Lyndi, and her beloved Chae. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 17th from 10am to 11am at the First United Methodist Church of Bartow, 310 South Broadway in Bartow. A celebration of life ceremony will follow at 11:00am at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Polk County Humane Society, or Good Shepherd Hospice.
