Sammy V. Haag, Sr. , age 74, born October 26, 1939, in Kokomo Indiana, went home to be with the Lord, September 9, 2014 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, after a long battle with cancer. Sam Haag, who everybody knew as "Pop," was loved by everyone. He loved to hunt, fish, golf and be in the woods or whatever the family did to have a good time. He worked hard to provide for his wife and sons. He was always there for his family and everybody else that needed him. He graduated from Summerlin at Bartow in 1957. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Sam retired from New Wales Inc. and the Polk County School Board. He attended Winter Haven Church of God and was a member of Schalamar Community Church. The greatest thing of all was Sam was ready to meet the Lord and Pop loved his family dearly. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Samuel & Annie Crum and his parents Carl and Daphne Haag, brothers Tommy and Donald Haag and sister Judy Haag. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Linda Haag and three sons: Gary Haag, Skip Haag (Maria), Sam "Hap" Haag (Debra), a wonderful Grandson Mason Haag and many extended family and friends. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 11th from 6 PM to 8 PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow Friday, September 12th at 10:00 AM at the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale.
