Rupert L. Carlton, Jr., age 88, of Fort Meade, FL, died Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Bartow Regional Medical. Mr. Carlton was born December 11, 1918 in Wauchula, FL. He graduated from Florida Southern college and did postgraduate work at FSU. Mr. Carlton served his country in WWII for 5 years, he is an Army Veteran. He was the Band Director at Fort Meade High School from 1950 to 1979, he also taught music at the middle school from 1975 to 1979. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Meade and the former choir director. He was a charter member and past President of the Ft. Meade Rotary Club, now known as the Ft. Meade Civic Club, which he still attended on a regular basis. Mr. Carlton was the reipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Award. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mickey Carlton of Fort Meade. Two Sister-n-laws, Mary Carlton of Winter Park,FL., and Alice Carlton of Lakeland, FL. Four Nephews, Herb Carlton of Atlanta, GA., Dale Carlton of Daytona, FL., Larry Carlton of Orlando, FL., and David Carlton of Lakeland, FL.
Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway, Fort Meade, FL 33841. The family will recieve friends on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 from 6 to 8 pm at McLean Funeral Home. The Service will be at The First United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11:00 am on Jan. 10, 2007. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade.
