Roy Turner, age 87, of Bartow, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale of respiratory failure. Born November 27, 1921 in Geneva County, Alabama, Mr. Turner has been a resident of Bartow since 1957, moving from Miami. Mr. Turner was owner & operator of Roy's Sunoco in Bartow for fourteen years. He was also a sales representive for Crawler Rail & Roller Corp of Dade City for fifteen years. He was a member of Bartow First Baptist Church and a WW II Navy veteran. He is preceded in death by his wife: Vera B. Turner. He is survived by his two daughters: Bonnie Parker of Bartow & Janet T. Pitts of Winter Haven; sister: Charlotte Brewer of Opp, Ala; 3 grandchildren: Tom Churchwell (Lisa) of Charleston, S.C.; Jennifer Whatley (Matthew) of Wauchula & Matthew Parker of Bartow; two Great Grandchildren: Turner Churchwell & Helen Grace Churchwell both of Charleston, S.C. Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 6-8 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral services will be held Thursday 10:00 am at the funeral home.
