Robert Wesley Trent

Lakeland - Robert Wesley Trent, age 72, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020. He was born November 13, 1947 in Lynchburg, Virginia to Willie & Eleanor Trent. He served his Country in the United States Navy. Robert was on the USS Iwo Jima and took part in the recovery operation on April 17, 1970 when the Apollo 13 splashdown in the South Pacific Ocean. He retired from IMC Phosphate where he worked as a Dragline operator, Dragline Supervisor and Geologist. He was a member of the Bartow Church of God and the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor Trent, father Willie Trent, brother Charlie Trent. He is survived by his wife Janet Trent of Lakeland, they were married 48 years, on October 9th of this month they would have been married 49 years, two daughters, Jennifer Smith (Max) of Lakeland and Sherry Trent (Don Belew) of St Louis, MO and sister, Cindy Sexton (Scott) of Lakeland. Family will receive friends Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the Church of God, 1460 E Stuart Street in Bartow. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the Church of God. Interment will be held at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL with military honors.
