Robert E. Devereux

July 28, 1958 — April 2, 2025

Robert E. Devereux (known to all as Robbie), age 66, went home to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. He was born on July 28, 1958, in Bartow, FL, to Robert and Mignon Devereux. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Teresa Devereux. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Terri Devereux; daughter, Charley Devereux; grandsons, Elijah Devereux and Daniel Thomas; sister, Priscilla Harmon, and her husband, Charlie, all of Bartow, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly. Robbie was a loyal member and served on the Board of Trustees at Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church. He attended whenever the church doors were open and was always disappointed when he had to miss a service. He was loved by the church members and proudly served on the church security team, protecting the congregation. A lifetime member of the NRA and an avid gun enthusiast, Robbie enjoyed spending time at the gun range and shooting regularly. He was passionate about personal safety and encouraged others to exercise their right to bear arms. Additionally, Robbie was a survivalist and prepper, always ready for any emergency. Robbie’s entrepreneurial spirit began at a young age, delivering newspapers and working in the orange groves. He learned valuable life skills from those he worked for and applied them throughout his life. Even then, he was frugal with his money, charging his mother and sister interest when they borrowed from him. He later worked at the same phosphate mines as his mother, who was an executive secretary to the engineers. Robbie eventually moved south to Clewiston, where he worked on a ranch as a cowboy, enduring all the hardships the job entailed. Anyone who knew Robbie heard the stories—and they were all true. During this time, a dear friend, Kirk Jameson, a bondsman, employed Robbie to help bring bail jumpers to justice. Robbie often said these were some of the best times of his life. Later, Robbie worked on the road welding pipelines, traveling along the East coast and throughout the southern United States. He sold his travel trailer and began working as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic during the day, while also working part-time at night for Polk County as a Maintenance Technician. He eventually moved to full-time and retired in October 2024. In summary, whether it was working in the orange groves, phosphate mines, as a cowboy on a ranch, bounty hunting, welding pipelines, or fixing what was broken for Polk County, Robbie was a hardworking man who made his mark in many ways.
