Paul W. Speight

Mr. Paul W. Speight, age 94, passed away from natural causes Saturday, April 18, 2009. Born November 29, 1914 in Tiger Bay, FL, he was the son of the late Charles and Nora Speight. Mr. Speight was a lifelong resident of the Fort Meade and Bartow area. In 1965 he founded Paul Speight Insurance in Bartow where he faithfully served his community and clients for many years. Mr. Speight was also a veteran of WWII. He was well known for his love of family and friends. He was an avid sportsman who loved golf, hunting and especially fishing. He is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 68 years, LaVerne, three daughters; Pam Westberry (Mickey) of Bartow, Lynda Speight of Atlanta, GA, and Paula Stratton (Tom) of Melbourne. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; Paul Westberry (Myra) of Simpsonville, SC, Dana Wile of Bartow, Anne Mathews (Harry) of Jacksonville, Bill Stratton (Corynn) currently residing in India, Ted Stratton (Lindsay) of Chicago, and four great grandchildren; Rachel Westberry, Michael Westberry, Jessica Wile, and Andy Mathews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 21st from 1 - 2 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home 650 East Main Street in Bartow. Services for Mr. Speight will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home chapel.
