Lakeland, FL/Hendersonville, NC - Nancy Tune Kitchings, 82, passed away on January 7, 2026. Born on April 9, 1943, in Endicott, NY, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Alva Tune. She grew up in Bartow, FL and graduated from Erskine College with a degree in Home Economics. Nancy dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a beloved teacher, impacting the lives of many students and their families for generations. She was also active in the community, volunteering with the Polk County Youth Fair (serving on the Board of Directors) and a member of the Fort Meade Garden Club.
She was an avid quilter and loved sharing her passion for sewing with the community, friends, and family. Coordinating sewing classes for youth, teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren to sew, sewing and donating pillowcases to Conquer Cancer for kid's hospital stays, donating quilts for Relay for Life and gifting baby quilts to all of her friends and family.
She was a cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend whose infectious positive attitude brought joy to all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 58 years Wayne Kitchings, her daughters Jenni McMillan & Julie Kitchings, son Wil Kitchings (Kelly) and their 3 children, granddaughter Lauren Marlowe (Spencer) & grandson Connor McMillan (Breanna), 5 great grandchildren and sister Diane Tune Smith. She was preceded in death by her brother James Tune.
A celebration of life will be held on January 17th at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Meade where she was a valued member for over 40 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Relay for Life.
