Myrna Rae Harrell (née Herndon), born April 24, 1937, in Lake Wales, Florida, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 10, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Myrna was the beloved daughter of the late Loren Herndon and Leah Herndon (née Keen). She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 59 years, James W. Harrell, her sons; Audie and Donald Harrell, and her siblings Melvin Herndon, Marylin Williams, Phyllis Ward, Gwen Black.
She is survived by her brother Gerald Keen and her children: Rickey Harrell and his wife Becky; Mike Harrell and his wife Katrina; Scott Harrell and his wife Jamie; and Cathy Timmons and her husband David. She is also lovingly remembered by her widowed daughters-in-law, Denise and Rosemary Harrell.
Myrna leaves behind a large and loving family, including 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great pride and joy and will continue to carry forward her legacy of faith and love.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Myrna was a lifelong and dedicated Baptist and an active member of First Baptist Church of Fort Meade. She faithfully served the Lord and her church in many ways throughout her life. She taught Sunday school to young children, served as an AWANA leader, and later taught Sunday school classes for women. Myrna also worked for Polk County public schools for 31 years, preparing and serving meals for the students. Her heart for service extended beyond the classroom as she also helped prepare and provide meals for students, always seeking ways to care for and encourage others.
Myrna will be remembered for her strong faith, strong spirit, and the love she poured into her family and church community. Her life was a testament to servant leadership, compassion, and devotion to God.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and is now at peace in the presence of her Lord.
Family will receive friends Friday, March 13, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Fort Meade, FL. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Fort Meade, FL. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade, FL.
