Mona L. Hamby

Mrs. Mona L. Hamby, age 87, died Wed. November 12, 2008 from complications of diabetes. Born April 25, 1921 in Gruetli, TN, she was the daughter of the late William Lee and Evie (Birdwell) Hargis. Mrs. Hamby was a longtime Bartow resident and a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Christ of Bartow on north Jackson Ave. Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Hamby and a grandson Steven Hunter. She is survived by her son Frank Hamby (Ginny) of Knoxville, TN, two daughters; Betty Hunter (John) of Mulberry, and Shirley Clanton (Harry) of Bartow. She also leaves behind six grandchildren; Tim, Heather, Leigh Ann, Laura, Joey, Michael, and six great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home 650 East Main Street in Bartow where family will receive friends Sunday Nov. 16th from 6 PM to 8 PM. Services will follow Monday Nov. 17th at 2:00 PM at the funeral home chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ of Bartow 450 North Jackson Ave., Bartow, FL 33830.
