Miley Toole Young

October 16, 1920 — March 31, 2013

Miley Toole Young, age 92, passed away from natural causes on Easter Sunday, March 31, in Auburndale. She was Born October 16, 1920 as the third of five children to Thomas Alfred and Laura Alice (Courtney) Toole. She and her family moved from her birthplace in Jackson County to Hardee County during the late 1920s. During World War II, she was an aircraft maintenance technician at the Sebring airfield. Shortly after the war, she moved to Bartow, remarried, and remained there until her death. She worked as a bookkeeper for a number of citrus packing companies and other businesses. She was an active member and Sunday School teacher of First Baptist Church of Bartow for more than sixty years. For fifty years, she was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Tropical Order Chapter #38, and for over twenty years she held membership in the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She is survived by a loving family: Henry Franklin Young, Jr., her devoted husband of sixty two years, and four children; Sylvia Webb (Carl) of Longwood, Sidney "Buddy" Young (Linda) of Sorrento, Mary Jo Chatman of Bartow, and Henry Franklin Young, III (Yvonne) of Aiken, SC. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, her brother Courtney "Buck" Toole of Bowling Green, her sisters; Verna Whitfield Crews of Bowling Green, Mary A. Durrance of Avon Park, and Willie Clyde Cloud of Sebring. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 4 from 6PM to 8PM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow Friday, April 5 at 1:00PM at the First Baptist Church, 410 East Church Street in Bartow.
