Matthew Floyd King, age 68, passed away on May 23, 2026, at Lakeland Regional Hospital. He was born on September 17, 1957, in Bartow, Florida.
Matt was a lifelong resident of Bartow and worked for many years in the phosphate industry, along with several other occupations throughout his life. He was also a devoted caregiver to his parents for many years. Matt was an avid Florida Gators fan who enjoyed watching Gator sports, playing crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy!.
Matt graduated from Bartow Senior High School with the Class of 1976 and later attended Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marcy King of Bartow, Florida.
He is survived by his four brothers and one sister: Steve King (Linda) of Winter Haven, Tim King of Seattle, Mark King (Carolyn) of Bartow, Chris King of Winter Haven, and Marcy Kay Prevatte (Kevin) of Bartow; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home.
