Mrs. Mary B. Griffin, age 75, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 of heart failure. Born December 10, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Sarah Barbara Purcell. Mrs. Griffin was a retired Registered Nurse and the owner and operator of The Gunshed in Lakeland. She was a member of St Thomas Catholic Church in Bartow. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority; Polk County Guardian Ad Litem program; Polk County Mentors program; Plan USA Foster program and the Jeweler's Board of Trade. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years William R. Griffin and her daughter Regina L. Griffin. She is survived by a loving family that includes her son Robert & wife Terry Griffin of Lakeland, two daughters; Karen A. Griffin of Clearwater, and Susanna G. & husband Ronald Clem of Allen, TX. She also leaves behind a brother: William Purcell of Casselberry; sister: Barbara James of Richmond, VA and five grandchildren; Tiffany McMahan, Keegan P. Clem, Timothy R. Griffin, Katherine R. Clem, and Lauren D. Griffin and one great granddaughter: Autumn Grace McMahan. Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 27th from 6 to 8 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 28th at 9:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church 2180 S. Kissingen Ave. in Bartow.
