Bartow – Martlew Q. Gillett passed away Friday, April 25th at Highland Lakes Center in Lakeland, due to complications from a stroke. He was born on July 28, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marty and his wife moved to Bartow in 1962 after graduation from the University of Utah with a degree in Geological Engineering and was employed by W. R. Grace in the Mining Operations. He was a Registered Engineer in the State of Florida. At Grace, he held various Engineering and Management positions and retired in 1991 after 29 years. He also served 4 years in the US Air Force and received his Commission and Navigator wings in 1956. He was a member of AIME (American Institute of Mining Engineers). He was a former active member of the Lakeland Rifle and Pistol Club. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucia of Bartow, daughter Karen G. Boswell (Lex) of Bartow and daughter Marcia A. Gillett of Windermere, FL. He was a wonderful and loving husband and father, always making time and being there for his family. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 30th at Wildwood Cemetery. Rev. Roy Lowe of First United Methodist Church of Bartow will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Children’s Cancer Center, 4901 W. Cypress Street, Tampa, FL 33607, www.childrenscancercenter.org or First United Methodist Church of Bartow, 310 S. Broadway Ave., Bartow. Whidden-McLean Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
