Martha Stewart "Marcie" Miller, age 90 passed away Sunday, November 23, 2025. She was born in Bartow on July 17, 1935 to Barnell L. and Lonie Powell Stewart. She attended Bartow schools, graduating from Summerlin Institute in 1953 where she was in the "Miss Summerlin Echo" court, Glee Club Operettas and Cheerleader. She worked for the Polk County Board of Commissioners from 1953 until 1961 in the engineering department, for the Mid-State Lung Association from 1972 until 1978 and taught at Floral Avenue Elementary School for a number of years. She was a member of the Augusta Bevis Music Club as well as the Golden Age Club and Triple "L".
Mrs. Miller was an active, lifetime member of the First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for 60 years, was a Sunday school superintendent and director, and worked in Vacation Bible School. She was a member of the adult choir for 53 years and directed several children's choirs. Mrs. Miller was the Church Historian, helping to write "The History of First Baptist Church" for their 125th anniversary.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Gene Miller; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Stewart and her sisters, Barbara Stewart Korpa and Marguerite Stewart Skipper. She is survived by her son, Mark Eugene Miller and wife Gina of Houston, Texas, by daughter Melinda Miller Griffin and husband Garry and two grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua Griffin and wife Zoe of Gainesville, Florida. Also, she has many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Sunday, November 30, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, 410 East Church Street in Bartow, FL. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be held at Wildwood Cemetery in Bartow, FL.
