Bartow - Margaret "Peggy" Elaine Fisher, age 79, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2021, at her residence in Bartow, FL (formerly of Deltona, Florida for 45 years where she raised her three kids). Margaret was born September 14, 1942, in Madison, Wisconsin to the late Robert & Lois (Carroll) Fisher. Margaret hated her birthname and was affectionately known by “Peggy” to all that knew and loved her. She was a retired Registered Nurse after caring for others for 50 years. Peggy was very active in her community to say the least! There were so many causes she was passionate about. In 1965 she was part of the American Red Cross Nursing Services, from 1971 to 1981 she was a leader and helped establish new groups in Volusia County and Sanford for La Leche League International. She was an International Childbirth Education Association instructor, where she was instrumental in forming a Parent Education Classes at Central Florida Regional Hospital. She was a Brownie/Girl Scout leader. Peggy was a continuing education instructor for LPN's and RN's. She was a HIV/AIDS counselor. Peggy served as President and Vice President for the Funeral Society of Mid Florida and Florida Federation of Funeral and Memorial Societies. She served as a committee member for The Local Health Council of East Central Florida, Inc. Peggy was one of the founding members for Deltona Spring Fest (18 years) and was such a solid asset to the Deltona community that they even declared April 4, 2016, as “Peggy Fisher Day” in her honor. Peggy had a green thumb and had a knack for tending to her orchids, Christmas cacti, African violets, and anything green. She loved any plants that attracted her “spirit animal” the butterfly. She was always happy to share or propagate cuttings for anyone who showed an interest. She loved doing crafts with her kids and grandchildren. They ranged from painting rocks, tie dye to creating gifts for the Red Hat Society which she was also a member of. Anyone who knew her knew she bled “Orange and Blue” being a proud mother and mother-in-law to two Florida Gator Alumni. Peggy moved to the Floral Lakes Community in Bartow in 2016 and quickly became active in this little city along with the Bartow Middle School FFA where her daughter, Michele is an FFA advisor. She enjoyed working at “The Shed”, was active in the Social Club and helping organize the annual Bizarre. Peggy was a member of United Community Church. She surrounded herself with family, good friends and neighbors who enjoyed her positive attitude and quick-witted humor. We can’t forget all those sweet pooches that came to visit daily as she quickly ran inside to retrieve cookies for them. Lastly, Peggy was a dedicated and loving Mom who put her children’s needs before her own, ALWAYS! She made sure they were fed, clothed, and had a roof over their heads, doing this all as a single mom. It wasn’t always easy at times. She taught them to be self-sufficient, kind to others but family being the most important. She was preceded in death by her three brothers Donald Fisher, Col. Robert Fisher and Jerry Fisher. She is survived by her two daughters, Michele G. Parmer (Robert), Marnie E. Gocken (Christopher Patterson), son Mark D. Gocken (Danielle), five grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nina”, Abigail M. & Anna G. Parmer, Bridie S. Carmody, Ava M. & Mason M. Gocken; a grand fur nugget, Mac along with many nieces & nephews, extended family and numerous life-long friends. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 12-3pm, Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the Allen Barn, 6410 Garfield Road, Ft. Meade, Florida 33841.
