Magdalene Greear Stroud, 87, of Bartow, FL, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Maggie was born April 27, 1923, in Fort Blackmore, VA. She moved to Bartow 51 years ago from Virginia. A loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Maggie was a musician, songwriter, poet, artist, and wonderful southern Applachian cook. She was a member of the Refuge Church of God in Highland City. She was preceded in death by her parents: John & Lula Jennings; Husband: Osman Cox Greear; Son: Timmie Greear; Sister: Ruth Collins; and Five Brothers: Cecil, Bill, Gene, Troy & Ray Jennings.
She is survived by her husband Robert "Buddy" Stroud of Bartow. Four Daughters: Myrna Uzmack of Mulberry, Malinda Stafford of Lakeland, Rhonda Walker and Deanna Sergel both of Bartow. Three Sons: Michael Greear of Highland City, Terry Greear of Oviedo, and Eric Greear of Lake Wales; and Daughter-in-Law: Cecelia Greear of Bartow. Three Sisters: Barbara Lane, of Wise, VA; Joyce Thacker of Esserville, VA; Jeanette Chaffin of Wise, VA; and Brother: James Jennings of Nickelsville, VA. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 East Main Street in Bartow, FL, where the family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Friday, December 31, 2010. Funeral service will be at Wildwood Cemetery at 11:00 AM Friday, December 31, 2010 with Rev. Michael O. Greear officiating.
