Bartow - Mae Enlow Hartsaw, age 97, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013, at Rohr Nursing Home in Bartow. Born September 22, 1916, in Harrison County, IN, she was a resident of Bartow since 1947. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bartow, serving as president of the United Methodist Women for ten years. Retired Food Service Manager for the Polk County School Board, Mrs. Hartsaw spent many summers at Flaming Arrow Boy Scout Camp helping scouts work on merit badges and making sure everyone was well fed. She served as Grand Ester of the Order of Eastern Star of Florida, also Worthy Matron of Tropical Chapter #38,O.E.S. An avid bird watcher and conservationist, Mrs. Hartsaw held the lifetime position of Board Member Emeritus of the Florida Audubon Society and was past president and acted as local naturalist for the Lake Region Audubon Society participating in the annual Nature Faire, Christmas Bird Count, Project Eagle Watch, along with educational activities in local middle schools. Mrs. Hartsaw was also a member of the Bartow Garden Club and other service clubs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Hartsaw, sons, Billy Ray Hartsaw and Loren Eugene "Gene" Hartsaw, Jr. grandson, Bill Trask, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Mrs. Hartsaw is survived by her sister, Charlotte Schraeder of Dallas, TX, Daughter - Janet Rogers of Fort Meade, FL Son - Bob Hartsaw and wife Ellen of Jacksonville, AL Daughters-in-law - Jan Hartsaw of Lakeland, FL and Donna Hartsaw of Orlando, FL 11 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 10 to 11 am at First United Methodist Church, 310 S Broadway in Bartow. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at Lakeland Memorial Gardens.
