Luther C. Wilson

Bartow- Luther C. Wilson, 99, died November 21, 2015 at Hospice House in Lakeland, Florida. Lukie, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in Bartow, Florida on July 15, 1916. His parents were George Wilson and Edith Johnson Wilson. He graduated from Summerlin Institute, now Bartow High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and saw combat in the Pacific islands. After the war Lukie had an interesting life and worked in various fields, including working as a charter boat captain on the Florida east coast and farming in Haiti. During the last years of his life he lived at Savannah Court in Bartow and had many friends among the staff and residents there. Lukie is survived by his cousin Gloria Syme of Seneca, South Carolina, and from subsequent generations many cousins in Bartow and elsewhere. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Bartow Oak Hill Cemetery. Whidden-McLean Funeral Home.
