Luther Ellis, 90, died Friday, February 7, 2014, at his residence in Fort Meade. Born September 22, 1923 in Pike County, Alabama, Mr. Ellis was a resident of the Fort Meade area for several years, moving from Hardee County. He was a World War II Army veteran. He worked in the citrus industry for many years. Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife: Alena Ellis, and his first wife: Bessie Ellis. He is survived by three daughters: Jean Sweikowski of Wauchula; Betty L Shiver of Bowling Green & Linda Dickey of Zolfo Springs; four step-sons: Wayne & Roy Chambers of Fort Meade; Ronnie Chambers of Sebring & Dale Chambers of Avon Park; two step-daughters: Linda Clyatt of Lakeland & Judy Gibson of Bartow; a sister: Catherine Bryant of Troy, AL; a brother:Thomas Ellis of Zolfo Springs; 29 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren & 6 great great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Thursday, February 13, 2014, from 1:00 -2:00 PM at McLean Funeral Home, 306 E. Broadway, Fort Meade with services following at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Meade.
