Lois E. Selander, age 78, went home to heaven Wednesday, May, 26, 2010, at home surrounded by her family. Born December 8, 1931 in Elmira Heights, NY, she was the daughter of the late Adolphus T. and Mary R. (Head) Smith. Her parents were ministers of Assembly of God churches in northeastern Pennsylvania and western New York where her and her sister, the late Carol Comstock, performed many duets together. Lois was raised in Dunmore, PA, and graduated from Dunmore High School, class of 1950. She worked at a local bank in the accounts payable department. In 1954 she married the late Oscar R. Selander, Jr. Together, they lived in El Paso, TX, Jersey City, NJ and Piscataway, NJ, before settling in the Floral Lakes Community in Bartow 23 years ago. Mrs. Selander is survived by her children; Linda L. Ritter (Richard L.) of Bartow, Oscar R. Selander, III of Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas J. Selander (Ginger) of Orlando, Sandy S. Selander of Bartow, and Sharon A. Sloboda (Eugene) of Seminole. She also leaves behind her grandchildren; Rebecca L. Harboe (Nicolaus), Melinda L. Luke (Charles W. Jr.), Cortney L. Selander, Angela Schipani, Tina Schipani, Benjamin R. Selander, Megan E. Sloboda, David M. Sloboda, and her great grandchildren; Mitch Luke, Isabelle Marie Luke, and Zachary Richard Luke. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 East Main Street in Bartow, where the family will receive friends Tuesday, June 1st from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services for Mrs. Selander will follow Wednesday, June 2nd at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church of Bartow 355 South Florida Ave. in Bartow.
