Lewis Sherrod Stidham, age 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 19, 2024. Born in Bartow, Florida, on March 7, 1937, Lewis was the son of the late Wade Hampton and Dorris Simpson Stidham. Lewis attended Bartow Senior High School (‘55) in Bartow, Florida, and Erskine College (‘58) in Due West, South Carolina. At Erskine, Lewis met his “darlin’,” Constance “Connie” Cook, whom he married in 1958. He was a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Bartow for 60 years, serving as a Deacon and an Elder. Lewis worked in the banking industry, retiring as the Executive Vice President of Citrus and Chemical Bank of Bartow in 1993 and later serving on the Board of Directors of Farm Credit. He was also a former president of the Bartow Rotary Club and the Bartow Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Board of Directors of Bartow Memorial Hospital and Erskine College. Lewis enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family and friends, mainly quail hunting, fishing, or just sitting around the fire telling stories and burning sticks. Often, one of his bird dogs—Pat, Ike, or Rock—would accompany him while he “piddled” around the yard. His daughters and grandchildren cherish their memories at “The Lakehouse” on Crooked Lake in Babson Park, Florida, where he taught them how to water ski, fish, and sail. In addition to his parents, Lewis was predeceased by his brother, Wofford Hampton Stidham, and his sister-in-law, Betty Faye (Biggs) Stidham. He is remembered by a loving family that includes his wife of 65 years, Constance (Cook) Stidham; his daughters, Marie Stidham Mundy (Craig) of Lakeland and Lizbeth Stidham Engle (Walt) of Lakeland; his four grandchildren (to whom he was “Poppy”), Elise, Will, Conner, and Jack; and his nephews, Jon, Jeff, and their families. A Memorial service will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 205 E. Stanford Street in Bartow, FL . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Bartow, 205 E.
