Kathryn M. Austin

Kathryn “Kay” M. Austin, age 97, of Bangor, formerly of Fort Meade, FL, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the South Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Community, surrounded by her family and friends. Kay was born July 7, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of John F. and Margaret (Clark) McDermott, and has lived in the Bangor area for 20 years and in Fort Meade, FL for about 20 years. She was chaplain at the American Legion, did a lot of volunteer work, and never met a stranger. She loved people, and enjoyed being out. Surviving are her 2 daughters, Regina (John) Hoover of Covert, Margaret (Burt) Farley of Bangor; 4 grandchildren, Amanda, Rachel, Heather, Aaron; 3 great grandchildren, Isis, Lyra, Scarlett; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. The family meet friends 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Bangor Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home. The funeral service was 11:00AM Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Bangor Church of Christ with Pastor Duane Jones officiating. According to her wishes cremation will follow and burial of cremains will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade, FL.
