Joyce M. Hamer

Joyce M Hamer, age 80, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Winter Haven Hospital of respiratory failure. Born August 10, 1930 in Birmingham, AL to M.R. and Susie Middlebrooks, Mrs. Hamer has been a resident of Bartow since 1952, moving from Troy AL. Mrs. Hamer was a graduate of Troy University, with a masters degree from University of South Florida. She was an elementary school teacher for the Polk County Schools for 32 years. After retirement, she served as principal of Oak Schools in Bartow for several years. She was an active member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Bartow. She served on the Board of the Church Service Center for over 20 years. She was a former member of the Bartow Pilot Club. She is preceded is death by her parents: M.R. & Susie Middlebrooks & brother: William F. Middlebrooks. She is survived by her husband; George N. Hamer; daughter: Georjan Cauthan & husband Ron of Bartow, son: Gregory Hamer of Flat Rock, NC; six grandchildren: Katie Clanton & husband Mike of Lakeland; Andrew Cauthan of Lakeland; , Jacob Cauthan of Fort Myers; Rebecca Cauthan of Bartow; Graham Hamer & Isaiah Hamer of Flat Rock. 3 great grandchildren: Caleb, Colt & Hattie Clanton, all of Lakeland; nieces: Laura Middlebrooks of Richmond, VA & Kaley Carpenter of Philadephia, PA. Family will receive friends Friday, May 20, 2011, 10:00 - 11:00 am at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 205 E. Stanford St, Bartow. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 at the Church. Interment will follow at Bartow Wildwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the ARP Church Youth Fund, P.O. Box 1411, Bartow 33831.
