BARTOW - Born on August 22, 1932, Joy Turner Dykes, age 89, a resident of Bartow, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, at Good Shepherd Hospice house on October 4th, 2021. She worked in administration for the State of Florida, a was member of McLeod Memorial Presbyterian Church in Bartow. Joy had graduated from Florida Southern College with a dual B.S. degree in Psychology and Sociology and an A.A. degree from Polk County Community College. She was a member of many square dance, round dance, and clogging groups in Polk County. She enjoyed loving her family, her faith in Christ, her church, singing in the choir, tennis, bird watching and attending to her home. Joy's warm smile and caring nature will be missed for many years to come. Joy was born in Arcadia, Florida and preceded in death by her parents: Roy and Muriel Turner, her husband: Lewis E. Dykes, and her brother: Thomas Turner. Joy is survived by and devoted to her 2 sons: Jayson L. Dykes and David E. Dykes, 4 grandchildren: Noah Dykes, Caleb Dykes, Morgan Dykes, and Taylor Dykes. A service of celebration to Joy's life will be at McLeod Memorial Presbyterian Church, 695 W Stuart Street, Bartow, FL on Saturday morning October 9th. Reverend Anthony Gilbert will be officiating the service. The visitation will start at 10:00am, celebration service at 11:00am, and graveside service to follow. Wearing of mask will be required by the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to McLeod Memorial Presbyterian Church. Condolences may be sent to the family.
