Josephine W. Walker

Mrs. Josephine W. Alford, age 74, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2009 at home in Lakeland. Born September 5, 1935 in Lyons, GA, Mrs. Alford was the daughter of the late James Maurice and Mary Florence Walker. Mrs. Alford was a V train Plant Operator for Cargill Fertilizer and retired after 29 years of service. She was a member of Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church of Bartow. She is survived by her son Richard "Sonny" Alford and wife Donna of Lakeland, two brothers; Shelton Walker of Lakeland, Alvin Walker of Lake City, four sisters; Lorene Loyde, Nila Rewis, Idell Gunter and Aletha Howell all of Lakeland. She also leaves behind three grandchildren; Stephanie Alford, Angelica Alford, and Summer Alford. Arrangements are being handled by Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 East Main Street in Bartow, where the family will receive friends Sunday, October 18th from 4pm to 6pm. A prayer service will be given at 5pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Cancer Center, 4901 West Cypress Street, Tampa, FL 33607.
