Josefa "Joann" Bustos-Fernandez

Josefa "JoAnn" Bustos-Fernandez, 62, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021. She was born August 7, 1959 in Lubbock, TX to Jose "Pepe" & Otilia Bustos. She moved to Bartow 36 years ago from Texas. Joann was a Detention Officer for The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice from 1983-1989, later working as a Community Social Worker for the Polk County Opportunity Council in Bartow from 1989-2005 before retiring as a Rehabilitation Social Worker for TriCounty Human Services in 2020. Joann also worked part-time at radio stations WBAR-am 1460 in Bartow and WIPC-am 1280 in Lake Wales where she was known as "DJ Tejana" from 1987-1995. She was a member of Turning Point Worship Center in Bartow. She was preceded in death by her husband Efrain Fernandez and father Jose "Pepe" Bustos. She is survived by her children Maryann Bustos of Bartow, Joseph F. Bustos & wife Jillian of Lakeland, Efrain Bustos of Bartow, Adrian Bustos & wife Kathryn of Bartow, Charrissy Bustos of Lakeland, mother Otilia Bustos of Bartow, two brothers Jose "Joe" Alfredo Bustos of Lakeland and Guadelupe "Wally" Bustos of Bartow. Grandchildren Jovanna Bustos, Ava Bustos, Joseph M. Bustos, Joylize Bustos and Jaziah Bustos, nephews Justin Rodgers, Joseph "Dominic" Bustos, Adam "Cory" Bustos, nieces Isenia Bustos, Esmeralda Bustos and Alexis Bustos. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow, FL. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Friday, August 27, 2021 at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Meade, FL.
