John Albert Voigt

December 8, 1928 — March 30, 2024

John Albert Voigt died peacefully, at home in Alturas, on March 30th. He was born December 8, 1928, to Victor E Voigt and Della M. (Oelze) Voigt at their home in Alturas, FL. John was BORN, LIVED and DIED on the land his parents purchased over 100 years ago. He excelled in sports during his school years playing Basketball, Football and running Track. He continued to enjoy sports, as a spectator, throughout his life. John was blessed with the talent of a master carpenter and builder and the mind of a master "fixer". His early adult years were spent working in construction with his father who taught him, from a young age, the skills of building, working with integrity and doing his best whatever the job. Later, he worked at WR Grace as a Carpenter foreman and then in Fertilizer Maintenance, spending most of his career as a Superintendent in Maintenance, prior to retiring in 1988. At home, in his shop, he loved working with his hands, creating beautiful treasures to share with friends and family or helping his children by adding his creative touches to their homes. His beautiful creations will be treasured for generations to come. John loved to plan a project, drawing his designs to scale and planning the fine details until he could visualize the final product. Gratefully, although he was confined to his home in his last years, his mind remained sharp and clear all his days and he shared sweet memories of his life with family and friends and maintained his fellowship with the Lord through the reading of Gods Word and prayer. As a lifelong member of Alturas United Methodist Church, now Alturas Community Church, he loved serving his Lord wherever needed and treasured his church family. John led a full and active life and valued time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was exceedingly proud of his family and their accomplishments. John is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Vida Ray Voigt and his brothers and their wives: Clifford (Dot), Edward (Nora) and Richard (Nellie). He is survived by a large family who loved him dearly and will miss him til we all meet again in heaven. His children include his sons: Tom Voigt (Joy) of Ashville, NC, Bill Voigt of Tampa, Gary Stenger (Astrid) of Bartow, Michael Stenger (Fay) of Babson Park. His daughters: Christi Adkins (Mike) of Homeland and Pam Blalock (Bill) of Bradenton. His grandchildren: Adam Voigt (Peyton), Aaron Voigt (Joy), Annie Wolfe (Thomas), Jacob Voigt (Sarah), Zach Voigt, Ben Voigt (Leila), Joshua Adkins (Lindsay), Tyler Stenger, Monica Stenger, Alison McPherson(Kyle), Braxton Blalock and Beck Blalock. 19 Great Grandchildren and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his Sister-in-law Doris Stevens and many nieces and nephews. John and the family have been blessed and are truly grateful for his loving and devoted caregiver, Diana Vazquez, and his lifelong, faithful friend, Mary Nell Smith. Services will be held at Alturas Community Church(formerly Alturas United Methodist Church) on Saturday, April 6th . Visitation be will held at 2:00 pm with Funeral Service to follow at 3:00 pm.
