John Wesley Powers

John Wesley Powers, age 91, of Wauchula, passed away at Winter Haven Hospital on Friday, February 19, 2016 from complications of pneumonia. John was born on August 30, 1924 in Gardner, FL and raised in Mulberry. Mr. Powers served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. John worked as an industrial engineer in the phosphate industry for many years. He is preceded in death by his wife Martha and his daughter Linda Powers Jackson along with Linda's husband Wilbur Jackson and his granddaughter Rebecca Patton. John is survived by five children: John D. Powers, Sr. (Sherry) of Lakeland, Tom Powers (Juanita) of Cleveland , GA, Jeanna Powers Odum (John) of Ochlocknee, GA, Sharon Powers Mathis (Lee) of Pavo, GA. and Bruce Powers (Glenda) of Wauchula. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 24th from 6pm to 8pm at McLean Funeral Home in Fort Meade. Funeral services will follow on Thursday the 25th at 10:00am at the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will take place that afternoon at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
