John H. Mckinney

John H. McKinney, 59, died Friday May 29, 2009 at Heart of Florida Medical Center, Haines City of heart failure. Born September 5, 1949 in Centre, AL, Mr. McKinney was the son of the late John and Carra McKinney. Mr. McKinney had been a resident of Lake Wales for 9 years moving from Alturas where he was a longtime resident. Mr. McKinney was with the Bartow Police Department for 27 years serving as Police Lieutenant & Detective Sargeant. He was involved with the State Drug Task Force for 12 years; member of the Florida Intelligence Unit & a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a Baptist. He is survived by his wife: Rita L. McKinney; son: Jonathan & wife Diane McKinney of Alturas; daughter Wendy & husband Shawn Harper of Winter Haven; brother: Bobby McKinney; sister: Lorine Brewster both of Sand Rock, AL; 5 grandchildren: Kayla, Jonathan, Nathan, Jacob & Natalie. Family will receive friends Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow from 6 to 8 pm.
