John H. Bragg

Mr. John H. Bragg 82 of Bartow passed away June 5, 2009 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. A native of TN John often spent time searching for arrow heads along the river in Chatanooga as a boy. He then moved to Bartow to live with his grand parents in his early teens and enjoyed coon hunting on Peace River. He Graduated from The Summerlin Institute in 1945 where he was voted best dressed and also held the school Pole Vaulting record. John was the owner and operator of Braggs Electrical Service in Bartow before working and retiring from Royster Phosphate Mine with 18 years of service as a Electrician. John was a Army Veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bartow; American Legion Post #3; Bartow Volunteer Fire Dept. and former member of the Bartow Art Guild. He enjoyed fishing and especially hunting at his GA Hunt Camp. John was a wildlife painter and carver with several of his works purchased by the Friends of The Library and put on display at the Bartow Library and also Lowery Park Zoo in Tampa. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Jo Howell Bragg and is survived by two daughters Kathryn Bragg Hall of Wiki Wachi Springs and Kae Mercer; three sons John Bragg; Tim Bragg (Sarah) and Michael Bragg; one brother Tommy Bragg all of Bartow. 13 Grandchildren and 13 greatgrand children. A visitation will be held Monday 06/08/2009 from 6-8PM at the Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow with services following Tuesday 06/09/2009 at 10AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeland Memorial Gardens in Lakeland.
