John Christopher Mathis

John Christopher Mathis, age 47, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019 at his home in Bartow. Mr. Mathis was born on April 24, 1972 in Lake City, FL. Chris worked in the hospitality industry for many years. Mr. Mathis is preceded in death by his grandparents: Marvin and Annie L. Mathis and Richard B. and Armilda D. Gittings. He is survived by his father, John S. Mathis (Suzanne) of Bartow, mother, Diane (Gittings) Alderman (Richard) of Bartow, his siblings: Larae Hagan (Bobby), Justin Mathis all of Highland City, his step siblings; Chere' Brickhouse (Steven) of Orlando, Shannon Arellano (Domingo) of Lakeland, Olivia Aguire (J) of Bartow. Marissa Dela Cruz of Bartow, Francisco Dela Cruz of Bartow and Marco Dela Cruz of Bartow. He also leaves behind his great aunts: Flora Carter (Jack), Lonette Dominey and his aunts and uncle: Robbie Hickens, James Mathis (Margie), Margaret Simandl (Wally), Kay Mathis Williams, Becky Bradley (Gary), Brenda M. Loper, Dorothy Gittings (MIchael Beaumont) and his lifelong loving cousin and best friend Alison Odowski Jackson along with 25 special first cousins. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 2:30pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.
