Jeanne R. Luttrell

Jeanne Rice Luttrell, 90, of Bartow, passed away peacefully of heart failure on October 2, 2014, at Lifecare Center of Winter Haven, where she and her husband have resided for several years. Jeanne was born in Ashland, KY on May 10, 1924, and graduated from Centre College in Danville, KY, where she met her husband Rodney Thomas Luttrell. They relocated to Polk County in 1955. For 28 years she taught high school Spanish and English at Lake Wales and Bartow High schools, as well as at Lakeland Christian School. She also taught Character Education at Bartow elementary schools. After retirement, she moved to Raleigh, NC where she worked as an administrative assistant for Biblical Wellness Ministries, a support ministry to pastors and Christian workers. In 2002 she retired once more to Bartow, where she was active again in the First Baptist Church. Jeanne is preceded in death by a son, Rodney T. Luttrell, Jr. She is survived by her husband Rodney Luttrell; her daughter Carol Hawkins of Santa Rosa, CA; her son Paul Rice Luttrell of Eugene, Oregon; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her beloved sister Mary Louise Clements of Raleigh; a special family friend, John C. Tribble of Bartow; several nieces and nephews in Raleigh and KY; and many friends. In lieu of flowers, Jeanne requested that contributions be made to the Friendship Class, First Baptist Church of Bartow, 410 East Church St., Bartow, FL, 33830. Family will receive friends Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 10-11 AM at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
